Animals of Austalia

"That Dingo Ate My Baby". That's what I always hear in my mind when I see a photo of a dingo. I can't help it. Of course, that incident was a sad situation but it's funny how one little sentence can stick for years and years. How many people on this earth have used that line in a skit? No offense to anyone in Australia or anywhere else for that matter.

The sender writes: Hi JarieLyn all the way from the east coast of Australia. We are surrounded by beaches and often see whales and dolphins at play in the wild. I'm a mum of four kids and we love to go camping and spend most of our free time outdoors. Winter has just started. Our days are still warm and sunny but nights chilly. Other animals pictured above are Koala, Wombat, Sugar Glider, Pretty Face Wallaby, Eastern Water Dragon, and Dingo.

My neighbor's sister-in-law had a sugar glider as a pet. She used to bring it with her wherever she went. I saw it once and got to pet it. That was about five years ago. The sugar-glider died just a few months back. My neighbor's sister-in-law is heartbroken.

Message from a Kitty

Yesterday felt more like Friday than today. Woo Hoo. That means I still have a good week-end ahead of me. I'm going to be preparing lots of Postcrossings and writing letters. In the meantime, here's a Postcrossing I received in the mail yesterday. It traveled all the way from Taiwan.

The Flower Fields

It's a gorgeous Sunday here in Las Vegas. Normally, I pamper myself by getting an endermologie treatment every week on this day, but I decided that today I would stay home and attempt to organize my writing and creative space. I really need to get rid of some stuff. It's quite overwhelming.

It's a hot one outside, but I'm surviving the heat and apprecaiating air condition in my house and car.

Elvis Travels To Bakersfield

Elvis is traveling to Bakersfield to see his biggest fan, and my friend with whom I recently reconnected with on facebook after about 15 years. That's the main reason I love social media-finding old friends.  She will be extra happy that I also used an Elvis postage stamp.

Oh Happy Mail Day!

It's a good sign when I open my mailbox and spy anything in there at all. I always get so excited when I see colorfully decorated envelopes. It means that somebody put extra effort into their correspondence just for me. Well today, I'm feeling all sun-shiny and giddy because I received two colorful envelopes from the same person.

The top envelope contained a chatty letter which I am totally stoked about. The letter contained some  good news and now I feel like a kid who's waiting to go to Disneyland for the first time. I'm like, Hurry Up Already!  Ha Ha.

The second envelope contained some vintage postcards and vintage ephemera. Thank you!!! I love it all. It doesn't take much to please me. 

Finally, I received this card from a postcard swap I joined on Swap-Bot. 

Mostly, I'm just super stoked at the news in the letter. Thanks for making my day. 

Do Not Disturb, by Giani Versace

Good morning fellow bloggers and mail enthusiasts. I've got a busy day ahead of me. Aside from my normal household chores, I have a going away party to attend this evening on the other side of town. I'm going to write a beautiful letter and give it to the person who is leaving Las Vegas. I'm so sad because this person is my mentor, my spiritual teacher and an exceptional human being.

In honor of me being so busy today, I thought I'd show you a postcard I'm sending out today for a swap. It is titled, Do Not Disturb, by Gianni Versace. I think it's quite appropriate, don't you?

I have the whole series of Versace postcards which I found in a little thrift shop in Pahrump, Nevada nearly two years ago. I've sent a few out in Postcrossings but there's a part of me that thinks these could be worth some money because of Gianni Versace being a famous designer and then being murdered. I'm saving the best cards for myself and who knows, there may be a market for it someday.

Pen Pal Letter and a Postcard

Good afternoon. I'm sure most of you have had a very productive day so far. I almost greeted you with a "good morning" and then I realized that it's not morning at all.  Wow, time flies when you get out of bed and the first thing you do is write a pen pal letter.  I don't know why, but it takes me a really long time to write one letter. First I have to re-read the previous letter that I got and then I will respond to the conversation and/or start off with what's ever in my head and just write. Sometimes, I pause to check a reference or look for a picture that goes with my story so that I can include it with the letter.  Well, that's what happened today. I paused to look for a picture that I swore I had on my facebook page.  No luck there. Then I scoured my mom's facebook page and no luck there either. I really wanted my penpal to get a copy of the photo with the story. Maybe I'll find it later and send it on another time. Hey, at least I got a few pages written.  It's out the door and in today's mail and I feel really good about it. I hope it make my pen pal smile because I have felt like quite a bore lately.

I write: Dear Claudia, life in Las Vegas is good but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't ready for a new adventure. My husband and I long to hit the road and discover our dream place along the way. Personally, I'd love to live in Tennessee but I haven't quite sold my husband on the idea yet. Time will tell. Until then, I keep my vision alive in my mind's eye. One Pen Pal Letter Out the Door

Good afternoon. Well, I finally got one pen pal letter finished and mailed today. It feels so good to have my reply written. Now, I can start on the others without guilt and hopefully with free flowing words that won't bore and cause my recipients to snore.

Finally, a postcrossing.  I was so excited to be able to share my postcrossing and I was in such a hurry to put it in the mail that I forgot to share what I wrote first.  I can paraphrase though.  I wrote about my love of going to concerts back in the day and how Billy Idol was one of my most memorable concerts and that I have seen him perform twice. The recipient loves going to concerts and listening to music so I wrote about our commonality in that respect.  This postcard is traveling to the Netherlands.

There Are A Million True Paths

Good afternoon.

 It's 4:41 p.m. Nevada time.

I didn't do much of anything today.

My cleaning service was here so other than doing laundry, I basically just killed time surfing the net, reading facebook statuses, and organizing some of my clutter in my office.

I just got back from the post office with a few items in tow.

I received a wonderful letter from Kimmie with a few extra goodies tucked inside.

 

 

I was delighted that a sticker could stimulate my thought process.

It's true, there are a million true paths.

I think most people think of their own true path in terms of business or career direction.

But really, I think your true path is one in which something just feels right.

Me staying home and taking care of the house and being domestic isn't any less of a true path than someone who goes out into the world and works for pay.

Also, someone who is happiest when they are creating a piece of art, even if no one else ever sees it could be considered a true path.

Anyhow, I could go on and on, but since this is a mail blog I won't.

I love it.

Honestly, the 1940's is my favorite era.

This reminds me of a novel I read a couple of years ago called, "Dream When You're Feeling Blue".

It's about three sisters during World War II who sit at their kitchen table and write letters to their boyfriends and soldiers.

It's a very good book.

I finally received Mariska's vintage postcard that she sent on April 2nd.

Somewhere along the way it took a journey in the postal system and dodged it's destination for nearly a month.

 

 

I'm not sure what happened but it had this sticker on it.

I'm just glad it finally found its way to me.

Cute cards, but the person didn't even take the time to write their name or what swap it's for.

It irks me.

I'm sorry but it does.

If you ever receive a swap from me you will get at least get a full page written inside a notecard or a one page letter no matter what kind of swap it is.

 

I don't care how much I like what you send me, if you don't write me a note, I won't give you a heart with my rating.

That's just how I am.

Even when I receive a package that I have ordered from Amazon or Ebay, I always get a little note thanking me for my business, etc.

 

Sorry for the tiny rant.

Grrrr.



It's a Package Deal

 

My mailbox is at the very bottom.

Each time I check my mail I have to squat all the way down, butt practically touching the floor.

But it's worth it when I see stuff like this in my box.

 

 

I received a package from one of the swaps I joined.

(For those of you who don't know, every time I use the word swap, I am referring to swap-bot.com)

All I can say about this is that the woman packed a lot of stuff into this little box.

 

 

This package came all the way from Germany and was for a snail mail swap I joined.

I was thrilled with the contents.

I received 6 postcards, 3 notecards, 2 Christmas cards, (1 with a very nicely written note)

3 lettersets, 6 sheets of decorative paper, a ghost writing pen, heart stickers, and heart and envelope embellishment stickers, and air mail stickers.

Everything was a delight.
