Outgoing Postcrossings

I really enjoy the process of choosing the right card for Postcrossing. It really is such a great hobby and it helps me to focus on one particular thing, which is kind of like meditating. It can also be a very creative process. Oh, the simple pleasures of writing a short little snippet about my day or life. I'm making my imprint and recording historical moments hopefully for future generations to stumble upon.

I write: Hello Nadya! I just finished watching the bachelorette on TV. It seems I watch a lot of reality shows. My husband doesn't like reality TV at all. He prefers movies on the western channel. I write: Dear Sylvia, I hope you like the architecture on this building. I like it a lot. Tofay was a beautiful day in Las Vegas where I live. Outgoing Postcards

Good morning my friends. I'm sitting in my office at home and I've got my portable heater next to me warming my feet. I love feeling warm and cozy as I read all my favorite blogs.   I have a few Postcrossings to share with you this morning, and later maybe a few pen pal letters. Lets get started.

I bought this postcard while in Virginia City last August inside a great little bookstore. The whole store was filled with antiques and books all about the wild west. Fascinating stuff for me absorb.

This card is on a journey to Canada.

Hello I....., I hope this postcard reaches you with good cheer. Las Vegas, Nevada is where I make my home. In addition to Postcrossing, I also collect vintage postcards for my personal collection. I write:

Dear R., warmest greetings from Las Vegas, NV. I adore any illustration by Norman Rockwell because every time I look at one of his paintings it evokes some kind of emotion from me. It stirs deep within me, a feeling of nostalgia. This particular image is about the reaction to the Vietnam War.  I love how each face shows an emotion of dread. It makes my heart sink. Dear S, back when I was in high school many many years ago, the kids who took german as a language would sell german candy as part of a class fundraiser. I always bought some becase it was the best candy ever. It was soft like taffy, a bit sour and was shaped like a skinny candy bar. I wish I could remember the name of it. Keep enjoying your life, it goes by way too fast.  Sending you good vibes. <3 JarieLyn

Postcrossing; It's a process.

I am all caught up with my Postcrossings.

I now have eleven postcards in transit including the eight I just sent today.

I love Postcrossing but it takes me almost as long to write a postcard as it does a letter.

I'm sure most people just scribble a line or two but it's a process for me.

First, I read the profile of the recipient and then I check out his/her favorites wall.

Then I go through all of my postcards which are not organized in any way, to find the perfect one.

Then, before I even write anything at all, I must affix the postage.

That entails a process too.

There's the preview of the layout before I glue the stamps to the card.

I need to make sure they will fit and also that they will look visually appealing.

I have a leather pouch where I keep all of my stamps, most of them vintage and of lower postage rate.

(I have hundreds of dollars worth of postage in my leather pouch)

It takes awhile to get the correct postage amount.

After I affix the stamps, I address the card to the recipient.

I always do it in this order because it allows me to use all of the rest of the postcard for writing.

I used to start writing first and then address the card and then try to affix the stamps.

But after a few times with the stamps covering up my writing, I learned.

I do my best to write something personal about myself as well as a current event or something of interest about my city. 

I also write the date and current temperatures etc.

If a recipient requests something specific such as a quote or favorite movie, I'll include that as well.

These are the eight postcards I addressed this morning.

One of the recipients likes American humor so I chose this Prairie Dog Watching card for her.
